BOSTON-AREA JEWS AND ALLIES HOLD “SHABBAT IN THE STREETS” TO DEMAND IMMEDIATE END TO ISRAEL’S STARVATION CAMPAIGN IN GAZA
Jewish Voice for Peace Boston and Somerville for Palestine’s Jewish Caucus hosted a public Shabbat ceremony in Davis Square’s Statue Park, attended by local Jews, organizers, and passers-by.

On July 4, Jewish Voice for Peace Boston hosted approximately 50 Boston-area Jews and allies for a Solidarity Shabbat. Event organizers hoped to provide an alternative to Independence Day celebrations and draw attention to Israel's brutal starvation campaign in Gaza and the United States’ complicity in it.
On May 5th, MassArt placed staff members Peggy Wang and Isaac Watts on administrative leave for attending a demonstration against the genocide of Palestinians and in support of divestment. They falsely accused them of engaging in violence. Six MassArt students were also sent disciplinary letters.

Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) Boston stands in solidarity with Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee, Harvard Jews for Palestine, and other campus groups, in condemning the university’s use of the International Holocaust Remembrance Association (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.
We are committed to anti-Zionism and opposing antisemitism in the context of a liberatory framework. In the piece, we answer the questions: Why do we oppose both antisemitism and Zionism? Why is it NOT antisemitic to oppose Zionism? and Why is it dangerous to equate anti-Zionism with antisemitism? We hope this statement can be a resource for JVBP members, Palestine solidarity activists, journalists, and the wider public.

Jewish Voice for Peace Boston rejects the narrative put forward by Rep. Jake Auchincloss and the Boston Globe in its editorial on Jan. 18, 2024 regarding the $13.3 million federal anti-terrorism grant that “the Jewish community” is unanimous in feeling threatened by an uptick in “antisemitism” and therefore wants the City Council to approve the grant. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We support the Brandeis faculty senate measures passed to call on Brandeis to drop disciplinary charges against the students arrested at the rally on November 10th, 2023 and to ask the Middlesex County District Attorney’s office to drop legal charges against all seven people arrested.
