OVER 1200 MASSACHUSETTS VOTERS OPPOSE STATE SENATORS TRIP TO ISRAEL
Community Leaders Decry Plans, Funded by Anti-Palestinian Groups
What: Press conference, followed by petition delivery to State House offices of ten Massachusetts State Senators who will travel to Israel on December 4
When: Monday, November 23, 2015 at 10:00 AM
Where: Massachusetts State House (front steps), 24 Beacon St, Boston
Who: The Boston Alliance for Water Justice, a coalition of social justice community groups. Expert speakers will include Nidal al-Azraq (1for3.org), Nancy Murray (Boston Coalition for Palestinian Rights), Ann Glick (United for Justice with Peace), and Munir Jirmanus.
Why: Two anti-Palestinian organizations are sponsoring a Massachusetts Senators’ trip to Israel designed to promote economic and cultural ties. The human rights community in Massachusetts says no to this cooperation as long as Israel continues to violate human rights with impunity. They urge the Senators not to take trips to Israel until the occupation ends and there is real justice for the Palestinian people.
This trip is a tacit endorsement of Israel’s policies, including ever-expanding military occupation, continued building of Jewish-only settlements, segregation, military harassment and arrests of children, lack of access to schools, destruction of housing and other human rights violations. Massachusetts voters oppose “Innovative Partnerships” with the Israeli government and business community, which are more about politics than about economic growth.
Senators going on the trip include Senate President Stanley Rosenberg (Amherst), Ben Downing (Pittsfield), Anne Gobi (Spencer), John Keenan (Quincy), Barbara L’Italien (Andover), Karen Spilka (Ashland), Michael Barrett (Lexington), Eileen Donoghue (Lowell), Richard Ross (Wrentham), and Dan Wolf (Harwich).
