JVP Boston aims to build power through education, asking strategic questions like “what do we need to know, feel, and believe in order to become activists for justice in Palestine and Israel?”
Here are our ongoing projects:
NEW- Reading Group:
Contact firstname.lastname@example.org & email@example.com if you’re interested in participating!
Are you looking to deepen your political analysis, explore Palestinian fiction, process recent news, or discuss Palestine/Israel history? If there’s something related to Palestine that’s been collecting dust on your bookshelf, & you want to read it with other JVP members, this group can be for you!
We’re hoping to start a monthly reading group with rotating facilitators, focusing on shorter readings. Let us know which of these potential first readings might interest you:
– ‘Towards a Cohesive Civil Resistance-Oriented Program in Palestine’ by local Palestinian psychologist and activist Ayman Nijim
– The ‘Dialogues’ portion of ‘On Palestine’ by Noam Chomsky & Ilan Pappe
– Naomi Shihab Nye’s renowned poetry book ‘19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems of the Middle East’
– Selections from ‘The Case for Sanctions Against Israel’ by Naomi Klein, Slavoj Zizek, Angela Davis, Omar & Mustafa Barghouti, & many others
Beginning in the Fall of 2013, JVP-Boston has held a 6 week course which was an introduction to history, politics, and activism related to Israel/Palestine, every Fall and Spring. We are always looking for people interested in, facilitating or attending the course, or revising the curriculum. A schedule and application form will be available once we get closer to the start date for the Fall 2015 iteration, so check back if you are interested!
The JVP-Boston Education Working Group is also in the process of creating a guide on this course to share with other JVP Chapters.
These take a variety of forms: crash courses (condensed version of 101 Course), information sessions on Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS), film screenings, and educational lectures and workshops. Have any educational events you’d like to see offered? Let us know!
If you would like to become involved in any of our work, or have suggestions for additional projects, please attend one of JVP-Boston’s regular monthly meetings where we meet as a break-out group. Get involved with the Education Working Group.
